ANC Leader Slams Jubilee Candidate as Non-Starter in Kibra By-Election

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga as a non-starter in the Kibra by-election, citing his lack of electoral experience and President Uhuru Kenyatta's half-hearted endorsement.

Speaking to residents of Kibra from the Kisii community on Friday, September 20, Mudavadi said Mariga was going nowhere as far as the Kibra parliamentary seat was concerned and should be in for a rude shock come November 7.

According to Mudavadi, President Uhuru Kenyatta endorsed Mariga's candidature halfheartedly as he was in a hurry to leave the country to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

"The way I saw Uhuru, his body language was not in tandem with the endorsement, he was only doing it because he was rushing to leave the country for New York," said Mudavadi.

Mudavadi expressed support for ANC candidate Eliud Owalo, who had a plan to invest KSh 10 billion in water and sewerage, KSh 10 billion in roads, and another KSh 10 billion in education and health for the next five years.

Mariga's candidature has faced several hurdles after it emerged he had never voted and only registered as a voter in August 2019 after the seat was declared vacant.

"This guy (Mariga) is like someone landing from a plane using a parachute and unfortunately his gear has refused to open, I know come election day you will show him Kibra is not a showground," Mudavadi said.
