Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Daniel Manduku and 18 managers have been summoned for questioning by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over alleged financial mismanagement and graft at the parastatal.

According to sources, the EACC is investigating the alleged inflation of the Sh40 billion Kipevu Oil Terminal (KOT) project awarded to a blacklisted Chinese firm in October 2018. The project was initially valued at Sh26 billion in 2016.

On Wednesday, regional EACC boss Japheth Baithalu confirmed the summonses and the letter bearing the 19 names, but declined to provide details. “I am the one who summoned them. Dr Manduku is expected at 10am,” Baithalu said.

Despite the ongoing probe, KPA Managing Director Daniel Manduku attended two sports functions at Mbaraki Sports Grounds in Mombasa on Wednesday without referring to the matter. On Thursday, he confirmed that he met EACC detectives in Mombasa and urged officers under him to cooperate with the investigators.

“…I have this afternoon given more information to the EACC and will continue to cooperate with investigators,” the MD said.
