On September 19, 2019, the Law Society of Kenya's Vice President, Harriette Chiggai, led a team of lawyers from the Western Jurists Forum and the University of Nairobi's School of Law to provide free legal aid to residents of Vihiga county.
Organized in conjunction with the University of Nairobi's School of Law, the event aimed to connect lawyers with local communities and provide them with access to legal services.
Ms. Chigai emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "We have come with an aim of enabling residents get legal aid from lawyers from different places. It is one of our social responsibilities, we want to connect with local communities."
The program, dubbed "Wakili Nyumbani," aimed to educate communities on various channels they can use to resolve disputes.
Senior lecturer Joy Osiema from the University of Nairobi noted that the exercise provided students with valuable exposure to learn from practicing lawyers and help locals.
