Published on September 20, 2019, the women's hockey Premier League is heating up with USIU-Africa and Amira Sailors set to engage in crucial catch-up battles this weekend.

Defending champions Telkom hold a clear nine-point lead in the 10-team league standings with 26 points, while USIU-Africa comes in second with 17 points.

Strathmore University is third with 15 points, followed closely by Lakers and Sailors, who have 11 points each.

On Saturday, Lakers will host Kenyatta University in Kisumu, while Strathmore takes on Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) at City Park Stadium.

Meanwhile, Sailors will host USIU-Africa at City Park, and a victory will see them close in on Telkom at the top.

USIU-Africa coach Willis 'Awilo' Okeyo believes his team has the pedigree to catch up with Telkom, citing their two games at hand.

'We must keep on winning with good margins and pray that we beat Telkom convincingly in the return leg,' said Okeyo.

On Sunday, Butali Sugar Warriors will face Strathmore University in the men's Premier League duel at City Park, seeking to extend their lead and unbeaten run.
