Garissa County Deputy Governor Enjoined in Academic Credentials Petition ¶
Published on September 20, 2019
Abdi Dagane Muhumed, the Deputy Governor of Garissa County, has been successfully enjoined in a petition challenging the academic qualifications of Governor Ali Korane.
The petition, filed by Aden Mukhtar Bare, seeks to nullify Governor Korane's clearance for the gubernatorial race, citing that he presented fake academic papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Deputy Governor Muhumed argued that he would be directly affected by any negative outcome of the case and therefore needed to be enjoined as a petitioner.
However, the IEBC, through its advocate Paul Nyamondi, opposed the Deputy Governor's application, stating that the subject matter of the petition was about Governor Korane's clearance and not the nomination of the Deputy Governor.
Justice James Makau ruled in favor of the Deputy Governor, stating that he had given sufficient and valid reasons to be enjoined in the case.
