Published on September 20, 2019, the Africa Deaf Athletics Championships kicked off at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi, with 12 countries participating.
Kenya has taken an early lead in the competition, with a strong performance from its athletes.
As of Friday, Kenya stood atop the medal table with eight gold, six silver, and 10 bronze medals.
Their rivals, Ethiopia and Algeria, were tied in second place with one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal each, while Mauritius trailed behind with a gold and a bronze medal.
Kenyan siblings David and Beryl Wamira impressed the crowd with their sterling performance, with Beryl setting a new World Junior 200m women's deaf record of 24:46.
In the women's 100m and 200m events, Beryl Wamira outperformed Nigeria's Assurance Omoria, securing Kenya's first gold medal in the 100m with a time of 12:87.
The competition resumes on Friday with several events scheduled, including the 400m Women Final, 400m Men heats, and the Long Jump Women Final.
