Parents in Siaya County have been protesting against primary school heads who are demanding Ksh.150 per pupil for the ongoing Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) assessment.
County Director of Education Joseph Wamocho has warned primary school heads against soliciting money from parents for the CBC assessment, stating that the learning tools have already been catered for by the Education ministry.
According to Mr. Wamocho, an investigating team has been dispatched to the affected schools and teachers found imposing charges will face the law.
He noted that he had received complaints from parents saying they were given a list of demands to ostensibly facilitate the CBC assessment.
Mr. Wamocho's sentiments follow demonstrations by parents from Awelo Primary School in Siaya Town, who claimed that the school asked them to pay Ksh. 150 per pupil for the ongoing CBC assessment.
One of the guidelines from the Kenya National Examinations Council states that pupils will be required to clean a market next to the school compound, with the goal of helping children explore their environment and enjoy learning.
