Kenya Rugby Union Appoints New Technical Director

On September 20, 2019, the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) announced the appointment of Paul Feeney as the new Technical Director and head of the Kenya Sevens program.

Feeney, a former coach of Fiji and Western Province (South Africa), expressed his gratitude to the KRU for the opportunity to work with the Kenyan teams, stating, "I'm grateful to the Kenya Rugby Union for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to work with not only Shujaa but also the Simbas and the Lionesses at large."

According to KRU Chairman Oduor Gangla, Feeney will start his job immediately, with a primary focus on the 2020 Olympics Qualifiers. The Union has also planned for Feeney to work with the teams up to the 2022 Rugby World Cup.

The KRU has retained Paul Murunga as the Kenya sevens coach, with Gangla adding that he will work with other teams, particularly the Morans. The Union has planned for the Morans to participate in the Invitational Dubai7s this year.

The rest of the Kenya Sevens management team remains intact, with Kevin Wambua as the assistant coach, Mike Shamiah as the strength and conditioning coach, Lamech Bogonko as the physiotherapist, and Eric Ogweno.
