Published on September 20, 2019, a Nyeri court has handed down a one-year and three-month prison sentence to Dickson Githoi Muchemi for supplying alcohol to a 15-year-old girl.

The court found Muchemi guilty of supplying alcoholic drinks to a minor and failing to protect a child from use of drugs and drinks.

Senior Resident Magistrate Nelly Kariuki ruled that the accused's attempt to hide the child after getting her drunk was clear evidence of guilt.

According to the court, Muchemi had pleaded with bar attendants to hide the girl at their residence behind the bar after learning that police had been notified, which was seen as an admission of guilt.

Magistrate Kariuki also pointed out that a receipt produced in the police station showed that Muchemi had bought one bottle of Balozi beer and two cans of Guarana Smirnoff drinks, contradicting his claim that he had bought a bottle of soda.

During the arrest, Muchemi had also admitted to consuming alcohol.

The incident occurred on March 29, 2018, at Mr Nice Bar and Restaurant in Chaka trading centre, Nyeri.
