Ugandan singer Jackie Chandiru, a former member of the all-female band Blu3, has been struggling with drug and substance abuse for several years.
According to event organiser Balaam Barugaha, Chandiru requires financial assistance to cater for her medical and basic needs, including food and other essentials.
Barugaha dismissed rumors that Chandiru has passed on, saying she is still alive and needs support to undergo further medical attention and counseling.
Chandiru needs between Sh63,000-Sh88,000 a month for doctor visits and counseling, Barugaha added.
Chandiru burst into the limelight in 2004 with Blu3 after winning the Coca Cola Popstars TV show alongside Lilian Mbabazi and Cinderella Sanyu.
She has been open about her struggles with addiction, including a recent collapse at the Makerere University Business School while speaking during an Anti-Drug Use Campaign.
Ugandan socialite Jeniffer Full Figure recently faulted the Uganda Music Association for neglecting Chandiru in her time of need.
