Kenya's moral cop, Ezekiel Mutua, has fired a warning shot at rogue pastors, including James Ng'ang'a of Neno Evangelism, after the latter's bizarre theatrics sparked outrage.
On September 19, 2019, Mutua addressed the media, stating that the government would start regulating religious institutions if they refuse to come up with a code of ethics to govern pastors.
'We hope that somebody is working on it because if they don't then we are inviting government regulation to the churches. Please come forward and say that this practice it is not OK, let us self-regulate,' Mutua said.
He also called out pastors with cultist associations who fleece their followers in the guise of religion, urging friends of Neno Evangelism's founder to reach out to him.
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has since expressed support for Mutua's stance, stating that she would introduce a bill to curb pastors like Ng'ang'a.
Ng'ang'a, 66, had recently refuted claims that he was deranged, but his actions have sparked widespread criticism.
