On September 20, 2019, a former Seventh Day Adventist church elder, Tobias Mboya Koga, appeared before Homa Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Joy Wesonga for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old Form Two girl.

According to the court, Koga allegedly had carnal knowledge of the minor on diverse dates between December 2018 and July 26, 2019, at Wahambla Village in East Kanyada Location in Homa Bay.

The court heard that Koga intentionally, unlawfully, and indecently touched the minor, contrary to the Sexual Offences Act.

Area Chief John Akado revealed that Koga lured the student by sending her money through M-Pesa, and that they discovered romantic messages on the student's phone that proved their sexual affair.

Koga was arrested in Homa Bay town on Wednesday in an operation led by area OCPD Zamadani Mkondo.

He pleaded for leniency with the court, citing that he has children and a wife who depend on him for a living, and was released on a bond of Sh100, 000.

The case will be heard on October 22, 2019.
