Published on September 20, 2019, a court order temporarily halted the Kenya national karting championship after parents of two minors sued the Kenya Motor Sports Federation (KMSF) for banning their sons from participating in the event.
The parents claimed that KMSF's decision was prejudicial to their children and that they were not given a chance to be heard before being fined Sh10,000.
"It is only fair and just that these proceedings be dismissed," said lawyer Brian Murangasia on behalf of KMSF, arguing that the parents did not have the right to sue because their children did not apply for the 2019 karting driving licenses.
However, the parents alleged that KMSF illegally annulled results for rounds five and eight of last year's championship, thus blocking their sons from being champions in the junior class.
High Court judge Weldon Korir's order barred the federation from holding the championship and from issuing notices for races pending hearing and determination of the case.
