On September 20, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was charged in connection to corruption involving KSh 588 million.
Waititu denied the allegations and was released on a KSh 15 million bail with an alternative of a surety.
However, the county leader has now applied to the court seeking to have the money back in substitute of surety.
Former Nairobi mayor John Ndirangu has agreed to stand as Waititu's surety, stating in a sworn affidavit, 'Waititu is well known to me. I have on a myriad of occasions visited his city and rural residence. I have extensive knowledge of his businesses and interests,'
As earlier reported, on July 30, the governor and 10 others were charged in connection to graft allegations that cost Kiambu county KSh 588 million that had been set aside for upgrade of roads and supply of services.
Waititu denied the allegations and was released on KSh 15 million bail.
