Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has finally confirmed his long-held ambition to run for the presidency in 2022, ending years of speculation about his political ambitions.
Speaking during a televised debate, Kalonzo stated that he has twice sacrificed his ambitions to support Raila Odinga, who failed to clinch the presidency on both occasions.
'I have twice sacrificed my ambitions to support Raila and now it is my turn to lead,' Kalonzo said, adding that he is preparing ground for a grand contest in 2022.
He emphasized that he will not just be a candidate but a formidable candidate, ready to take on the top seat.
On whether he would seek Raila Odinga's support, Kalonzo said it is a dream of every politician to get the ODM leader's support, but he does not want to seem like an opportunist trying to capitalize on Raila's support.
'Who would not want 'baba's' support? But I don't want to be an opportunistic leader. Wiper is growing in leaps and bounds. In fact, those who went to Jubilee from the region have come back,' he said.
He also called for a hybrid system of governance in the impending referendum, where those who lost elections would still be in parliament to offer leadership and keep the government in check.
