Facebook has announced the launch of Boost with Facebook, a program aimed at equipping Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya with digital tools and technologies to help grow their business.

On September 20, 2019, Facebook partnered with Wylde International to train 3,000 SMEs in Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Mombasa on how to raise awareness of their businesses and connect with new customers.

The training is free and open to interested SMEs, with the first workshop scheduled for the week of September 23, 2019, in Nairobi.

Speaking at the launch, Mercy Ndegwa, Facebook's Head of Public Policy, East Africa, emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in driving Kenya's economy and providing economic opportunities for Kenyans.

"Globally, we have more than 1.6 billion people connected to small or medium-sized businesses on Facebook," Ndegwa said. "We are excited to be launching Boost with Facebook in Kenya, enabling local businesses to use social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram to unlock new business opportunities and compete at a Pan-African and global level."

Boost with Facebook provides learning and skills development for SMEs, empowering them to thrive in a digital economy. It also serves as an interactive, audience-curated website that houses and organizes the many services, resources, and training available to SMEs, job seekers, and community leaders across Facebook's family of apps and services.

Wylde International Managing Director Joram Mwinano commented on the partnership, stating, "At Wylde International, we are committed to providing dynamic and transformational programs for small and medium-sized businesses."

"We are excited to partner with Facebook and offer training that will focus on up-scaling SMEs by enhancing their digital skills," Mwinano added.

The launch of Boost with Facebook in Kenya follows similar launches across Africa, including South Africa, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Cameroon, DRC, Benin, and Guinea Conakry.
