Published on September 20, 2019, Jambojet, a regional low-cost carrier, has received approval from the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority to start flights to Kigali.
The airline has been pursuing this route as part of its regional expansion strategy, aiming to soar into more African destinations.
"We are pleased to have received this approval. Kigali is one of the routes we have been pursuing in our expansion plan. Once we have everything in place, we will begin operations," said Vincent Rague, Chairman, Jambojet.
As part of its expansion, Jambojet has also acquired a brand new De Havilland Dash 8 - Q400 aircraft, bringing its total fleet to six.
The new aircraft is the first of four expected this year, which will boost the airline's capacity and enable it to fly to more African destinations.
"We are excited about our growth prospects in the region. We have an aggressive plan to fly to more African destinations and this is why we are expanding our fleet," said Allan Kilavuka, Jambojet Chief Executive Officer.
The airline currently flies to five local destinations and one regional destination, Entebbe, Uganda, from its hub in Nairobi.
With the addition of the new aircraft, Jambojet now has the youngest fleet in Africa, with an average age of 3.7 years.
