The 14.5-Goal White Cap Kenya International Polo Championships kicked off on July 19, 2019, at Nairobi Polo Club, featuring top players from around the world.
Among the participants were South African internationals Tom De Bruins, Duncan Watson, Brad Mc Gibbons, Rory Twort, and Guy Watson, as well as Tanzanian Hansi Bruins and Gareth Evans of the United Kingdom.
Two matches were played on the first day, with Samurai taking on Toyota at 2 pm and White Cap facing off against White Cap Lite at 3 pm.
South African Tom De Bruin and Tanzanian Hansi Bruins were seeded with the Kenyan duo of Raphael Nzomo and Jules Camm in the handicap 14.5 Samurai side.
The Toyota team was led by South African Guy Watson and included the top Kenyan trio of Jammie Murray, Craig Miller, and Joss Craig.
The White Cap team, led by Handicap 5 United Kingdom's Gareth Evans, faced off against White Cap Lite, which started the match with a half-goal advantage.
Nairobi Polo Club vice-chairman Raphael Nzomo predicted a tough match against Toyota, citing the brand sponsorship as an inspiration to the players.
"The brand sponsorship is very inspiring to our players in a discipline ignored by the betting companies," Nzomo told Standard Sports.
