On September 20, 2019, Jambojet, a regional low-cost carrier, received approval from the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority to start flights to Kigali.
The airline's CEO, Allan Kivaluka, noted that Jambojet has also secured rights to fly to Mogadishu in Somalia and Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
With the addition of a new De Havilland Dash 8 – Q400 aircraft, Jambojet now operates six planes, with four more expected to be delivered this year.
The airline has been expanding its regional presence, with destinations such as Bujumbura in Burundi and Entebbe in Uganda, in addition to five local routes.
As a result, Jambojet boasts the youngest fleet in Africa, with an average age of 3.7 years.
According to the International Air Transport Association, low-cost airlines account for a quarter of international flights, but less than 10 percent in Africa, presenting opportunities for growth in the African aviation sector.
