Former Governor Samwel Ragwa has announced his candidacy for the Senate in the 2022 General Election, a move that comes after widespread speculation about his political ambitions.
Published on September 20, 2019, Ragwa's announcement puts to rest rumors that he was planning to run for governor to recapture the seat he lost to Governor Muthomi Njuki.
According to Ragwa, his decision to run for Senate was informed by the wishes of the people and the fact that the governor's seat had attracted too many candidates.
"I have been governor and I perfectly understand the challenges that they face, and I want to fight for their interest at the Senate,” said Ragwa.
He added that his experience as governor had given him a unique understanding of the county's needs and the ability to lobby for more development funds.
Senator Kindiki Kithure and Chuka University Vice-Chancellor Erastus Njoka are among those who have expressed interest in the governor's seat in 2022.
