On September 20, 2019, the fate of Tob Cohen's wealth was set to be revealed, as his lawyer, Chege Kirundi, prepared to open the late tycoon's will in court.

According to Kirundi, the decision to open the will followed a postmortem examination at Chiromo Mortuary, where Cohen's body was positively identified.

Lawyers representing Cohen's widow, Sarah Wairimu, and his sister, Gabrielle, had been requested by Kirundi to attend the will-reading at his office.

Wairimu, who had been in custody on suspicion of killing her husband, had been permitted by the court to witness the postmortem examination and help identify the body.

Justice Jessie Lesiit had earlier barred police investigators and Wairimu's defence team from commenting on the murder case.

Lawyers Philip Murgor and Cliff Ombeta, representing Wairimu and Gabrielle respectively, also sought orders to bury Cohen on Monday at the Jewish Cemetery on Wangari Maathai Road in Nairobi, in accordance with Jewish rites.

“We shall be opening the will of the late Tob Cohen at 11.30am tomorrow (today) in our chambers,” Mr Kirundi said.

“He was a Jew and they have their own rites that need to be respected. We intend to ask the court to allow the widow to be allowed to give her respect to her husband at the event,” said Murgor.
