On September 8, 2019, 17-year-old Kevin Otieno Musula, a Form Three student from Bar-ding Secondary School in Siaya County, went missing. His whereabouts remained unknown for over a week.
According to the Deputy Principal of Bar-ding Secondary School, Mr. David Onyango, Kevin left school and went to his home in Gem, where he was suspected to have committed suicide. Mr. Onyango stated that Kevin's grandmother, Mama Rosalia Nyasigunga, reported that Kevin came home from school on September 8 and then called his elder brother, Musa Musula, who had been paying his school fees.
Kevin was heard complaining that Musa had said he would only send Ksh 3,000, yet he had a fee balance of over Ksh.8,000. The boy then left home and never returned.
When Kevin failed to return home, the family began searching for him in vain and even called the elder brother, who went to Siaya from Nairobi on September 10, but they still couldn’t find him.
It was until yesterday that the family got information that the boy’s body had been discovered along the river bank in Sirandu village within Gem sub-county. They alerted the police, who took the body to Siaya County Referral Hospital for post-mortem as investigations into the matter continue.
