Published on September 19, 2019, Scolly Cheruto's vision for Monica, a star-studded drama series, has been a long time coming. The idea for the show was born in 2015, and after years of development, it was finally released in 2018.

Cheruto, a producer and director, had a clear vision for the show, which follows the story of Monica, an ambitious social climber played by Brenda Wairimu. The show's success can be attributed to Cheruto's dedication to bringing the story to life, as well as the talented cast, including Brenda Wairimu, Raymond Ofula, Fidel Maithya, and Joyce Maina.

When asked about working with a star-studded cast, Cheruto praised the discipline and cooperation of the actors, saying, 'In my experience, it's interesting that the most talented, most gifted and popular actors are the most disciplined, understanding and cooperative in comparison to the new comers.'

Cheruto's production house, Cheruscopic Productions, has an ambitious vision for local content, not only for Kenyans but for the international audience as well. The company is already working on new projects, including a third season of Monica, which Cheruto is excited about.

Cheruto also shared his admiration for female filmmakers, including Shonda Rhimes, Charlize Theron, and Funke Akindele, who bring humor, life, and fun to their stories. He also praised Dorothy Ghettuba, a Kenyan filmmaker who has done an incredible job leading the way.

Catch Monica S1 and 2 on Showmax.
