Lightning Strikes Down Players in Jamaica Football Match ¶
Published on September 19, 2019, a football match in Jamaica was abruptly halted after a horrifying lightning strike down two players, leaving them with injuries.
The incident occurred in the second half of a match between Wolmer's Boys' School and Jamaica College at the Stadium East field in Kingston.
According to reports, at least four young players were hospitalized, including Terrence Francis and Dwayne Allen, who were rushed to University Hospital in West Indies for observation after failing to respond to field treatment.
Francis' teammate Nickache Murray also had to be admitted later after complaining of chest pains, but had to be held overnight after further tests showed ECG irregularities.
Fortunately, referee Karl Tyrell blew the whistle soon after, drawing the attention of people who later rushed onto the pitch to help.
The incident has sparked fear of similar incidents taking place, leading to the postponement of two Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Cup matches.
