On September 19, 2019, a Nairobi court allowed embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu to substitute his Ksh.15 million cash bail with a surety of a similar amount.
Waititu pleaded with the court, stating that he was financially overwhelmed and needed the cash bail to meet his daily obligations.
According to the terms of orders issued on July 30, 2019, Waititu posted a matching surety, which means the Ksh.15 million cash deposited in court will be released to him.
Waititu and his wife, Susan Wangari, are facing corruption-related charges, including receiving over Ksh.25 million from Testimony Enterprises Limited, a company that the Kiambu County Government awarded contracts.
They are also facing a joint charge of dealing with suspect property, accused of jointly receiving over Ksh.7 million from Testimony Enterprises Limited through corrupt means.
Waititu and his wife denied the charges.
