On September 19, 2019, lawyers representing Sarah Wairimu Cohen and her husband's sister Gabrielle Van Straten announced that the two parties had agreed on the burial plans for Tob Cohen.
According to a statement from Philip Murgor and Cliff Ombeta, the burial ceremony will be private and only for family members. Sarah Wairimu Cohen and Gabrielle Van Straten will participate as the widow and sister, respectively.
However, this agreement comes after a day of controversy, as Murgor had previously demanded that the body only be released to Wairimu and not to the sister. He cited Kenyan law, stating that Wairimu is the sole custodian of the body as she is legally recognized as the deceased's wife, despite her arrest.
Wairimu is currently remanded at the Lang'ata Women's Prison, where she was detained following a court order that she remain in custody for 10 days to allow police complete their investigations.
The body of the Dutch billionaire was found inside an underground water tank, with the legs and hands bound. The tank had been cemented, seemingly to try and conceal the contents.
