Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has expressed concerns over Eden Hazard's move to Real Madrid, suggesting the Belgian may live to regret the switch.
Speaking after Real Madrid's Champions League defeat to PSG on September 18, 2019, Ferdinand stated that Hazard may have joined the Spanish club at the wrong time.
"I'm fearful for him really that he has gone to Real Madrid at the wrong time," Ferdinand said. "This is an ageing side, they are not on the way up and they have not got much spark about them at the moment, and that is going to reflect on him, badly, in the long term," he added.
Real Madrid's defeat to PSG marked Hazard's full debut for the club, but it was a performance to forget for the Belgian midfielder. He was part of a team that failed to register a single shot on target in Paris, despite fielding a strong attacking lineup featuring Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
Angel Di Maria's double and Thomas Meunier's stoppage time strike sealed a famous win for the Parisians, leaving Real Madrid to ponder their slow start to the season.
