Published on September 19, 2019, Millie Odhiambo, the Suba North Member of Parliament, shared a harrowing experience of her menstrual struggles as a young girl growing into womanhood.
Appearing on the JKL Show on Citizen TV, Ms. Odhiambo recounted how she was frequently hospitalized due to severe menstrual cramps and blood loss, with caregivers often mistakenly believing she had undergone an abortion.
Despite seeking medical attention from various hospitals in Kenya and later in New York, where she was told she had fibroids, the exact cause of her condition remained unknown.
Ms. Odhiambo emphasized the importance of menstrual awareness, stating that menstruation is not a disease and that girls should be proud of their periods, even in difficult situations.
She also revealed her work on the Assisted Reproduction Technology Bill, aimed at helping women who struggle with infertility, including herself, as she does not have children naturally.
Ms. Odhiambo expressed no regrets about being childless, stating that she feels complete without children and has brought the bill to help women who face similar challenges.
