On September 19, 2019, a dramatic turn of events unfolded in the Tob Cohen case as Sarah Wairimu withdrew her claim on her late husband's body. This decision came after reaching an agreement with Gabrielle, Cohen's sister, to allow Sarah to attend the burial as the wife and give him a dignified send-off.
The burial is scheduled to take place on Monday at 2PM at a Jewish cemetery in Nairobi. According to the agreement, the burial is a private event and will be attended by family members only.
This development comes after Sarah made demands through her lawyer for Cohen's body not to be released to anyone else but her, so she could give the love of her life a decent burial. Murgor, Sarah's lawyer, maintained that Sarah is innocent until proven guilty under Kenyan law and that her suspect status does not take away her right to her husband's body and bury it with deserving dignity.
However, Gabrielle had argued that the body belonged to the family and that the late Cohen had made a wish to be buried within 2 days of his death, with Jewish rituals to be performed on his remains.
