On Tuesday, a disturbing incident occurred at St. Paul's Gulf Academy in Bondo town, where a teacher was allegedly attacked by her husband.
Everline Akinyi Otieno, a 32-year-old teacher, was supervising her pupils when her husband, Kevin Otieno Ochieng, stormed the school premises and attacked her in front of her students.
According to Everline, her husband of three years walked into her class at around 10 am, demanding her mobile phone.
"It was around 10 am when he walked straight into my class interrupting the session. He took my phone and after about 10 minutes, he came back and handed me the SIM card but retained the handset," she said in an interview with Ramogi FM.
After a brief exchange, Kevin descended on Everline with kicks and blows before drawing out a knife and stabbing her three times. The pupils watched in shock and horror as the incident unfolded.
Everline was taken to Bondo sub-county hospital for treatment and is now recuperating at her parents' home in Alego Usonga.
The incident occurred just a day after Everline had fled their rented house in Bondo town following a disagreement with her husband.
Kevin had taken offence with Everline's decision to sleep over at her parents' home and accused her of being unfaithful, threatening to kill her before committing suicide.
Fortunately, police intervened and rescued Kevin from an angry mob that had gathered at the school.
However, the police were forced to release Kevin to receive treatment, citing the 24-hour rule for completing P3 forms.
