On September 19, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta gave McDonald Mariga, the Jubilee aspirant for the Kibra parliamentary seat, a much-needed boost in his campaign.

During a meeting at the State House, President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto promised to support Mariga in the forthcoming Kibra by-elections.

Mariga, a former footballer, will face 23 other candidates, including Imran Okoth of the Orange Democratic Movement and Eliud Owalo of the Amani National Congress.

The meeting with the President and Deputy President sent a clear signal to Mariga to start his campaign in the Kibra parliamentary seat immediately.

President Kenyatta's assurance of full support has been seen as a significant development in Mariga's campaign, and it remains to be seen how it will impact the outcome of the by-elections.
