On September 18, 2019, Tanzania international Mbwana Samatta made history by becoming the first Tanzanian to score a Champions League goal and the first to score in his Champions League debut.

Genk, the team Samatta plays for, suffered a 6-2 defeat to Red Bull Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League match.

Samatta scored his team's second goal in the 52nd minute, reducing the deficit after conceding five goals in the first half.

He found the back of the net after steering home Bogonda's cross past Stankovic.

Samatta's achievement is a testament to his skills and dedication to the sport. He has previously bagged a brace in a win over Besiktas in the Europa League last campaign and won the Ebony Shoe award in Belgium for his outstanding season with Genk.

Samatta is currently joint top scorer in the 2019/20 campaign with five goals so far.
