On September 18, 2019, a notable businesswoman and outspoken socialite, Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, sparked controversy at the National Assembly buildings in Kenya.

According to reports, Akothee was invited by a specific Member of Parliament, David Sankok, and was stopped by security guards for 20 minutes as her host pleaded with the officials to allow her to enter the parliamentary cafeteria for a meeting.

However, Akothee refused to change her attire, citing that the National Assembly buildings were not a place for women to dress inappropriately.

One of the security guards was quoted as saying, 'The National Assembly buildings are not a place for women to come dressed like that.'

After being detained for a while, Akothee was eventually allowed to enter the cafeteria, but not before being escorted by a female officer who covered her with a cloth to maintain her dignity.

It's worth noting that this incident occurred on the same day that another Member of Parliament from the Coast region was accused of exposing his private parts in the parliamentary chambers.
