On Tuesday evening, police in Nairobi arrested eight suspects who had been promising hundreds of job seekers a chance to travel to Kuwait for employment. The victims, mostly former soldiers, police officers, and prison warders, had paid between Sh80, 000 and Sh130, 000 to be processed for the jobs.
The suspects were clerks for a firm claiming to process job seekers for Kuwait. However, police declared the whole process a scam and announced they are looking for a woman believed to be behind it.
According to the Head of DCI at Central police sub-county, Samuel Kobina, the money paid by the victims was meant to cover logistics, training, and transport to Kuwait. He stated, “We are looking for more suspects in this saga. They have swindled many unsuspecting Kenyans,”
Police took the victims to Central police station for statement recording and were expected to appear in court as police sought more time to hold them while hunting down the main player in the scam.
