On September 18, 2019, singer Akothee made headlines after she was blocked by Parliament security from accessing the Members Only restaurant while dressed in a neon skirt suit.
She had visited the Parliament to meet nominated MP David Sankok, but her security was kept waiting outside.
After a nearly five-minute confrontation with parliament orderlies, she was allowed in, but not before being offered a kikoyo to wrap her mini skirt.
However, she declined the offer, saying, "Wamenivalisha leso." (They have covered me.)
She also added, "My legs are longer than the skirt," in an apparent response to the orderlies' suggestion.
During her visit, she also met Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
It's worth noting that Akothee had previously stated in an interview with Mpasho.co.ke that she wasn't interested in politics and wouldn't be vying for any seat come next election.
She also expressed her desire to live life on her own terms, saying, "I DON'T WANT TO GO BROKE. I'M ALSO NOT GOING TO CHANGE MY LIFESTYLE TO FIT INTO THE SOCIETY, AND I DON'T WANT TO BE ANYONE'S ROLE MODEL. I HAVE ONE LIFE TO LIVE AND WILL LIVE IT THE WAY I WANT," in the same interview.
