Published on September 18, 2019, the Nyeri county government has issued a stern warning to Maxvictor Enterprises, a road contractor responsible for recarpeting a 7-kilometre section of the Othaya-Kariki-Chinga road in Othaya constituency.

The Sh66 million contract, awarded to Maxvictor Enterprises, was expected to be completed by mid-May this year. However, the contractor has continued to drag its feet, subjecting residents to untold suffering.

According to Nyeri county development implementation and coordination committee chairman, David Kipkemei, the contractor risks being blacklisted and barred from bidding for government contracts if it fails to meet the November deadline.

Residents have expressed frustration over the delay, with some even protesting over the poor state of the road. KeRRA deputy director Joseph Wanjohi had threatened to slap the contractor with a Sh4 million penalty, but it remains unclear if any action was taken.

Area MCA Kiruga Thuku has accused the contractor of being arrogant and doing shoddy work, while residents Gachichio Mureithi and Geofrey Wachira have lamented the loss of lives due to the contractor's failure to complete the project on time.
