On September 16, 2019, a shocking scene unfolded in Dandora as residents took to the streets to protest the negligence of a local health center. The catalyst for this protest was a pregnant woman, Mary Atieno, who was forced to deliver outside the Dandora Health Center after being chased away.

The residents claimed that the main reason for their protest was the negligence of the Nairobi County Government health facility. They alleged that the facility's staff was unhelpful and demanded admission fees from pregnant mothers, despite the government's free maternity policy.

According to Mary Atieno, the staff at the health center told her to proceed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for medical attention, claiming that they could not feel the fetus movement. However, Atieno was exhausted and unable to find her way to the hospital, leading her to deliver outside the health center.

The protesters condemned the cold-hearted behavior of the hospital workers, who failed to assist Atieno even after seeing her struggling to deliver. The incident sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for accountability and better healthcare services in the area.
