Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has been accused of misusing public funds by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The allegations were made on September 17, 2019, in a court filing in Milimani, Nairobi.
According to the DPP, Kidero is accused of paying shillings 68 million to a law firm that provided legal services to the Nairobi County government. The DPP claims that the payment was made without proper authorization.
Kidero has denied the allegations, stating that the payment was a legitimate debt that he inherited from the previous Nairobi County government. He claims that the county government was legally obligated to pay the debt.
Through his lawyer, Kidero has asked the court to dismiss the case, arguing that it is a misuse of the court's power. The lawyer stated, 'The prosecutor has never been called to testify or answer any questions regarding the accused.'
The case has sparked controversy, with many questioning the use of public funds by Kidero. The DPP has maintained that the payment was made without proper authorization and that Kidero's actions were a misuse of public funds.
