On September 17, 2019, Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny made his debut for Turkish side Besiktas in a match against Gazişehir Gaziantep F.K.

However, his debut was marred by controversy as he was sent off in the 75th minute of the game after kicking Nigerian forward Kayode Olanrewaju.

According to reports, Elneny took out his frustration on Olanrewaju after the Nigerian player elbowed him during the game.

Both Elneny and Olanrewaju were handed marching orders by the referee, but it was too late for Besiktas as they went on to lose the game 3-2.

The Egyptian midfielder had joined Besiktas on loan from Arsenal this summer, having signed with the Gunners from FC Basel in 2016.

Despite the controversy surrounding his debut, Elneny will look to put the incident behind him and focus on helping Besiktas in their upcoming matches.
