Published on September 17, 2019, prominent criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta has assumed an unfamiliar role in the ongoing murder case of Dutch businessman Tob Cohen.

While Ombeta is known for representing the accused in high-profile murder cases, he will now represent Cohen's sister, Gabrilee Van Straten, in this case.

Van Straten's family is seeking justice for the slain businessman, whose body was discovered in a septic tank at his home after being reported missing for two months.

Ombeta's involvement in this case comes as he faces allegations of not being a registered lawyer.

He has previously represented notable clients, including Migori Governor Okoth Obado, Pastor James Ng'ang'a, and Joseph 'Jowie' Irungu, who were all at the center of high-profile murder cases in Kenya.

As the case unfolds, Ombeta is expected to face off against seasoned lawyer Philip Murgor, who is representing Cohen's wife, Sarah Wairimu.

Wairimu is expected to plead to related charges on September 26, with authorities believing she had a hand in Cohen's death.
