Kenya National Union of Teachers chairman Wycliffe Omucheyi's age has become a subject of controversy, with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) planning to invite officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to unravel the truth.

According to a letter signed by SM Njuguna of TSC, Omucheyi was to retire in March last year, having been born on March 5, 1958. The letter further states, 'This is therefore to convey the decision to retire you belatedly with effect from March 5, 2018.'

However, one theory suggests that Omucheyi was born in 1961, while another claims he was born in 1958. The discrepancy has raised eyebrows, with some sources alleging that Omucheyi may have corruptly influenced his current ID to say he was born in 1961 for his own benefits.

On January 16, 2016, Omucheyi petitioned TSC CEO Nancy Macharia to retire voluntarily on age grounds, giving his birth date as July 11, 1961. However, documents at TSC state that he was born in 1958, the information Omucheyi himself gave out.

DCI will have to investigate Omucheyi's date of Application for Registration of Teachers licence, which was on March 26, 1979. If born in 1961, he was then 18 years old, but if born in 1958, he was then 21 years old.
