On September 17, 2019, the World Bank announced its support for Kenyan farmers through the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth (NARIG) Project.
The project will provide grants to 824 farming self-help groups in 21 counties, building on the World Bank's existing Kshs87 million investment in the project.
The grants will be awarded to 152 micro businesses in the fields of apiculture, dairy farming, Irish potato, and poultry farming, with a focus on upgrading equipment to improve productivity.
Beneficiaries of the project will also receive extension services to reduce post-harvest losses, enhance value addition, and mechanize farming to increase their income.
The NARIG project is part of the World Bank's Ksh22.6 billion program co-driven by 21 County Governments, launched in December 2018, with the goal of making agricultural development an inclusive pathway to sustainable economic empowerment.
