On September 16, 2019, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen suffered a dislocated shoulder during a friendly match between the Senate and the County Assembly of Kitui.
Mr. Murkomen, the Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet County, was roughly tackled by an MCA, causing him to fall and sustain the injury.
He was rushed to Neema Hospital in Kitui town for treatment after a 15-minute disruption to the match.
The senators and MCAs were playing at Ithookwe showground, with the Senate, dubbed 'Bunge Team', ultimately beating Kitui County Assembly 3-2 in post-match penalties.
The Senate was in Kitui for the second edition of the Senate County sittings, part of the 'Senate Mashinani' initiative.
