On September 12, 2019, Jumia and Metta launched a partnership to equip SMEs and startups with crucial business skills in Nairobi, Kenya.
The program, part of Jumia's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, aims to help SMEs tap into existing market gaps and knowledge to expand and cement their business base.
According to Jumia's Head of Communication, Pauline Masese, the program is a unique way of giving back to the ecosystem.
"We wanted to find a unique way of giving back to the ecosystem. In whatever we do, we will want to leave an impact but our direction right now is giving back what we have and what we know is valuable to the ecosystem," Masese stated.
Under the scheme, budding investors will be enrolled in classes held once every month, gaining insights from experienced tutors and business moguls from Jumia and Metta.
One of the trainers, Charlse Njuguna, expressed excitement that most SMEs were employing the right business approaches but lacked knowledge that they were on the right track.
With adequate training, Njuguna emphasized that SMEs will have their business launched on a transformative trajectory.
