On September 5th, a daring heist occurred in Nairobi, with thieves posing as police officers stealing Sh72 million from G4S personnel.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the money was being transported to different bank ATMs in the city when the criminals struck.

Police officers Chris Mochogu, Dancun Luvuka, Vincent Owuor, Boniface Mutua, Alexender Mutuku, and Francis Muriuki were arrested and arraigned in court last week, but were freed on Sh1 million bond.

However, detectives from the DCI were not deterred and continued their investigation, leading them to John Kamau Mulei, the grandson of a 60-year-old woman, Mary Kyalo.

Mulei was arrested at Muumaandu, Machakos County, and led officers to his grandmother's house in Kalumoni, Machakos County, where Sh2.389 million was recovered.

The money recovered was in denominations of new Sh1,000 Kenyan banknotes.
