November 2017 marked a milestone for Miami, as Francis Suarez became the city's first Miami-born mayor. Suarez, a father of two, has a strong connection to the city and is committed to making it a healthier place for its residents.

As a member of the law firm Greenspoon Marder, Suarez has a background in law and has served as a Miami commissioner prior to his election as mayor. He emphasizes the importance of physical health in his daily life and believes it has a significant impact on mental wellness and mental health.

According to Suarez, obesity is a major public health issue in Miami, and he plans to focus on getting kids more active through after-school programs and community events. He cites his own experiences as a commissioner, where he organized intramural basketball games and boot camp-style training in inner-city parks.

When asked about what it means for Miami to be 'healthy,' Suarez emphasizes the interconnectedness of physical and mental well-being. He believes that being physically healthy helps with decision-making, stress management, and daily life, including family and career responsibilities.

As a fitness enthusiast, Suarez's favorite exercise is CrossFit, which he enjoys for its variety and efficiency. He also swears by protein shakes with creatine and unsaturated fats as a go-to healthy snack and has a soft spot for the classic workout anthem 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor.
