Published on September 16, 2019, detectives probing the murder of Dutch businessman Tob Cohen are on the hunt for three suspects believed to have been at his residence when the murder took place.

The three suspects, whose identities have not been revealed by police, are suspected to have tortured Cohen to death and helped conceal his body in an underground water tank where it was discovered 40 days after he went missing.

According to investigators, the trio is believed to have originated from Nakuru and traveled directly to Kitisuru on the day of the murder.

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti is leading the investigation, which aims to uncover the motive behind the torture.

The suspects are also linked to Peter Karanja, the former husband of Gilgil MP Martha Wangari, who is currently in police custody over Cohen's murder.

It is alleged that Karanja's phone signal was tracked by detectives at the crime scene before it went off and re-emerged in Gilgil.

Karanja's lawyers have denied the allegations, claiming that their client has been illegally detained and his basic human rights abused.

'Our client was blindfolded, his hands handcuffed at his back, and he was bundled into the boot of a vehicle against all the rights of an arrested person,' said Ham Lagat, one of Karanja's lawyers.

They are set to file an application in court to compel the DCI to produce Karanja in court.
