On September 15, 2019, a 36-year-old woman named Hanifa Were publicly accused Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip of impregnating her and then ditching her.

According to Hanifa, she met the senator through Facebook in April and they started a clandestine affair. However, the senator claims he knew Hanifa but ended the relationship after a week, citing that their expectations were different.

‘After knowing her for a week, I realized that we could not have anything together,’ Senator Anwar told the media.

However, Hanifa's account sharply contradicts the senator's, with her claiming that he had been trying to silence her with threats of dire consequences if she ‘spoiled his image’.

She alleges that the senator booked a flight for her to return to Mombasa, but after that, he went silent. Hanifa claims she later discovered she was pregnant and reported the matter to the police.

Senator Anwar, however, denies the allegations, stating that he never sent any goons to trail Hanifa and that he has recorded statements with the police.

‘I have many political challenges, I would not have the courage to send people to harm those who have wronged me, I think I would have finished many people by now,’ he said.
