Published on September 16, 2019, detectives from the Special Crimes Unit have made a significant breakthrough in the Sh72 million heist that occurred in Nairobi earlier this month.

Following a tip-off, the detectives conducted an operation in Machakos over the weekend and arrested three suspects, including John Kamau Mulei, who led them to his grandmother's house in Kalumoni village, where Sh2,389,000 was recovered.

The suspects are believed to be connected to the robbery, which occurred on September 5, when three Administration Police officers who were escorting G4S guards turned out to be robbers.

Two police officers were later arrested in connection with the theft, and detectives recovered Sh3 million from Constable Owuor's house in Kendu Bay and Sh4 million from Constable Ayienda in Kisii.

The police have established that the suspects bought a Subaru Forester on the same day of the theft using the stolen money.

Nairobi Region Police Boss Philip Ndolo confirmed that the three suspects will be processed by the DCI before being arraigned.
