Published on September 16, 2019, IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati has cleared footballer McDonald Mariga to contest for the Kibra seat, following a ruling by the IEBC Tribunal.

The IEBC Tribunal ruling overrides the earlier decision where the contestant was barred from taking part in the November 7th by-elections.

With this ruling, Mariga will join ODM's Imran Okoth, ANC candidate Eliud Owalo, and others to battle it out as the next Kibra MP.

The campaigns are expected to be vicious and a test run for 2022, with pundits believing it will be a face-off between ODM leader Raila Odinga and DP William Ruto given Mariga's candidature was personally being pushed through by the DP.
